Project: Carnbroe Bank Reinforcement
We were approached by W J Harte Construction in August 2006 to grow reinforced Wildflower Turf for a riverbank reinforcement project in Carnbroe a small village near Coatbridge, Lanarkshire.
A steep riverbank needed to be re turfed using Enkazon, a reinforcement material, to strengthen the turf thus creating more stable conditions and to prevent the bank from sliding into the river at the bottom of the slope.
Due to the height of the bank, the turf needed to be cut in "big rolls" measuring approximately 20m x 2m. Each turf is then rolled onto a barrel and hung by chains from a JCB and carefully unrolled down the slope. Turfs needed to be pegged at first to prevent slippage while the plant roots grew down into the soil.
The end result though was very pleasing as per the photo's taken by the contractor.
