With over 1,000 hectares of open space in the city and a plan to become carbon-neutral by 2030, Southampton City Council is making great use of wildflowers as part of their ‘Green City’ Plan.
The council have committed to introducing at least 25 new urban wildflower meadows by 2025 and a recent order of 1,700m² of Wildflower Turf Landscape 34 has already benefited the area around the city’s Civic Centre.
The Council’s Green City Plan 2030 expands on the commitments made in the Green City Charter. The Plan details the outcomes the council wants to achieve in the next 10 years and the activities planned over the first three years. Highlights of the plan include being a carbon-neutral city by 2030 and increasing the number of wildflower meadows in Southampton. Areas to benefit from additional meadows will include Millbrook Roundabout and Hogland’s Park.
