Each newsletter we feature one of our Accredited Partners, and this month we’re introducing you to Wild By Design Landscapes.
The Wild By Design team strives to create unique outdoor spaces, marrying high design with the raw beauty of the natural world. Offering consultancy, design and construction, Wild By Design is passionate about the creation of resilient gardens that blend design with craftsmanship, working in harmony with native wildlife and plants.
Based in Surrey, Wild By Design undertake design work across the UK, with a dedicated construction team focusing on Surrey and the South.
Friends since school days and now business partners, Max Denton and Tarun Aluvihare set up Wild By Design in 2018, and joined the Wildflower Turf Accredited Partner programme the following year after coming along to one of our Accredited Partner training days.
Wild By Design’s first wildflower project was a wildflower roof, and an online search led them to us! We have now worked with the team on a number of wildflower projects over the course of the past few years and our Native Enriched turf is nominated as the team’s favourite product to work with and never fails to delight the clients of Wild By Design.
The Wild By Design client base is predominantly Surrey-based, with clients generally well informed in terms of biodiversity and actively looking to wild their green spaces in a low-maintenance and biodiverse way.
While the team tend to focus on domestic clients, Wild By Design has also designed for commercial clients as well as charities.
One of Wild By Designs favourite wildflower projects to date is a beautiful, one-off garden in West Horsley.
The expansive and flat plot created challenges but Wild By Design was given freedom by their client to let their imaginations run wild and the resulting garden is a spectacular one-off! The steel and slate design is incredibly striking, with Wild By Design creating secluded areas to enlarge the space and to give different views of the garden.
Slate walling was used to create a unique sunken seating area with bespoke bee mosaics inlaid into the floor, and industrial corten-steel water features were used to add a contemporary edge.
This mix of styles is also reflected in the planting. Large swathes of Wildflower Turf Native Enriched blend into a contemporary cottage/prairie planting scheme to create a stunning, yet low maintenance garden. The Wildflower Turf was planted in late February and the length of season has been nothing short of incredible, with the long flowering season delighting the clients.
