National Meadows Day is coming up in July and Plantlife has a fantastic new resource aimed at providing you with everything you need to know about making and looking after meadows.
Aptly named, the Meadows Hub, this handy online guide is yet the latest in a series of great initiatives from this fantastic British conservation charity.
Plantlife works nationally and internationally to save threatened wild flowers, plants and fungi and offers simple and straightforward advice to those wanting to do their bit to protect and enhance our natural environment.
In the words of Plantlife; “The headline is stark. Since the 1930s, over 97% of wildflower meadows have been lost.”
The Meadows Hub provides information and detail on how to make a meadow and how to maintain a meadow. Covering off topics and questions such as “preparing the ground and controlling problem plants”, and “how do I sow wild flower seed?” this is a brilliant guide for anyone wanting to know more.
The Meadows Hub is also the place to go for further updates on National Meadows Day, scheduled for July 2nd, 2022.
National Meadows Day is a day of events and activities across the UK, including open meadows, walks, mowing and hay-making, mini-courses on ID, bees, rural crafts, art activities, children’s activities and scything competitions.
You can also keep an eye on Plantlife’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more updates on National Meadows Day.
And if you’re feeling inspired and can’t wait until July, there are many Plantlife Nature Reserves that are meadows and several are open to visit year-round.
