Kendal Town Council

Turning our attention to the north, we were very pleased to welcome Kendal Town Council to our training day on the 1st of September last year in Yorkshire.

A vibrant and traditional market town, Kendal is truly green at heart, surrounded by the breath-taking scenery that defines the Lake District.

Kendal, in the Lake District

In 2021, Kendal Town Council commissioned a research report that identified existing and planned nature recovery activity in and around Kendal, with the aim of enhancing biodiversity and to engage and involve individuals, communities and organisations.

During 2022, Kendal Town Council installed wildflower meadows at Somerville Gardens and Aynam Road, providing valuable forage for pollinators, with plans to further expand their meadow programme.

Several areas of Kendal are now benefiting from reduced mowing, allowing natural meadow regeneration and increased numbers of plant, insect and invertebrate species are evident as a result.

As well as last year’s order of Wildflower Turf® Native Enriched Turf & Spring Bulbs, the Council also has an order in for Wildflower Turf® Plant Paper Low Grow and Meadowscape Pro™ Native Enriched which will be utilised to further develop wildflower spaces within the town and with the help of volunteers.
