Bulbs should be planted between September and December, ideally when the ground temperature is between 4°C and 8°C. Flowering can start as early as January and finish as late as June depending on the bulb mix.
The area should be prepared to a fine tilth as you would with all of our turf options. Care should be taken that too much heavy weight isn’t placed on the turf when the bulbs are underneath, due to the small delicate nature of the bulbs. Planting the bulbs in clumps by scattering can provide a more natural woodland look.

If planting into an established wildflower area, then use a hand-held bulb planter to a depth of 6 – 8cms and plant where they have fallen after scattering from waist height.
Depending on your chosen bulb mix an weather conditions, flowering can start as early as January and finish as late as August.

Absolutely! You can experiment with combining each of the bulb mixes for a customised look.
No further maintenance is required for the bulbs when planted under the wildflower area, other than the annual cut & remove required for the turf in the Autumn.
A second cut on the wildflower area is sometimes advised for the end of May, if Winter growth has been extreme due to mild weather conditions, but this should ideally not be carried out with our Bee & Butterfly Summer bulb mix.
When ordering with our Wildflower Turf, bags or crates of bulbs can be added on to the pallets of turf at little or no extra cost. When ordering bags or crates of bulbs alone, carriage will be charged at cost.

Why Choose Wildflower Turf?
Changing colours throughout the year can be achieved with Wildflower Turf allowing for the creation of stunning wildflower meadows. The flowers in the turf mixes have been carefully chosen to produce flowering plants from early in the spring through to the middle of the autumn.
The grasses in the mix are native to the British Isles and are chosen to complement the flowers and not to compete with them, which is a common problem with conventional “wildflower plugs” or wildflower seeding. This allows the flowers to succeed rather than be swamped by the grasses, which is a common problem with conventional soil based Wildflower Turf or most wildflower seeding. The grasses are visually attractive while they seed, alongside the wildflowers, and the combination provides a food source for birds and a favourable habitat for butterflies and other insects.
